Nursing Projections for 2019

Nursing Projections 2019

The future of nursing is now. We have entered 2019, and the nursing field is growing to accommodate for the changing needs of patients.

The success of the nursing field relies on its ability to adapt. With technology advances and career enhancements, nurses will be able to provide improved care for all of their patients. So, what are the nursing projections for 2019?

Career Outlook

Baby Boomers range in age from 55 to 73 years old. As we age, our bodies undergo many changes. More assistance and care is often needed for people as they age. From arthritis to diabetes to other chronic conditions, Baby Boomers seek more regular care for their health. There are roughly 71 million Baby Boomers in the United States, so this means more demand for nurses across the board.

In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the job outlook for Registered Nurses has a 15% growth rate. This is much faster than the average growth rate. RNs can enter the field with an associates degree, and average earning potential ranges from $30,000/year to more than $70,000/year. The career outlook for nurses looks very bright.

Technology Advances

Technology helps to make the jobs of nurses easier. It also means that nurses are able to provide better assessments to help increase accurate diagnoses and improve outcomes for patients. Check out some of these technology advances in the medical field that nurses can look forward to using in the field:

  • Electronic health records: While paper backups of medical records are still a good idea, now medical professionals can easily find a patient’s medical history on computer tablets or office computers. Patients can approve that their medical records are shared with other medical providers in an area or within a network. This means that records from different medical offices are available at the tap of finger. No more need to track down medical records from a medical office across the town and wait for a faxed verification of previous diagnosis or medication history.
  • Diagnostic tools: Nanotechnology, biometrics, artificial intelligence and machine learning are becoming commonplace for today’s medical diagnostic tools. Nurses will be able to check vitals more accurately, administer tests, and determine diagnoses in coordination with doctors.
