HCI Firefighter School Requirements

Certified firefighters can further their education at Health Career Institute by working toward an Associate of Science degree in Fire Science.

This degree will provide an education for the aspiring firefighter who wants to qualify for a variety of jobs within their local fire departments. HCI firefighter school can be a great option for firefighters who want to advance in their careers.

Admission requirements for HCI’s firefighter school

Admission requirements for HCI’s firefighter school begin with the application for admission. Once you have submitted your application and the indicated application fee, you will need to schedule a facility tour with one of our knowledgeable and friendly Admissions Representatives. The tour will be an opportunity to learn more about the program and get answers to any additional questions that you may have about firefighter school through HCI. Accepted students to the firefighter school will need to complete the Enrollment Agreement and your first tuition payments according to the schedule provided.

Firefighter applicants will also need to have obtained a high school diploma or GED before enrolling in the HCI firefighter school. CPR certification is also an important prerequisite for those students who wish to complete an associate’s degree in Fire Science through HCI.

Requirements for HCI’s Fire Science program

HCI’s firefighter school totals 60 credit hours and will take about two years to complete. Students will gain hands-on learning in addition to lectures and labs that will equip firefighters with the tactics and methods to fight fires. Coursework will also cover fire investigation techniques, fire codes and safety standards, fire department administration, fire hydraulics, fire chemistry, and so much more.

Career firefighters will also benefit from receiving EMT-Basic and EMT-Paramedic training. In addition to fighting fires, a firefighter may also be called upon to provide emergency medical services on victims of fire burns and smoke inhalation at the scene of a fire before the ambulance arrives to transport them to the hospital.
