The Road to Becoming an EMT at HCI

As a new semester approaches, it is time to start thinking about what you want to study in school such as HCI’s Emergency Medical Technician diploma program.

Health Career Institute offers two diploma programs:

  • Emergency Medical Technician-Basic
  • Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic

Choosing EMT Career Path at HCI

EMTs are often first on scene in emergencies, and others depend on them to react quickly and provide care during the current situation. You should consider the fact that you may often deal with life or death situations.  You may encounter circumstances that are traumatic, so it’s important to be mentally ready for what this position involves on a daily basis.

At Health Career Institute, an EMT-Basic diploma is a prerequisite for EMT-Paramedic.  In the EMT-Basic diploma program, you will take courses to prepare you to determine a patient’s condition and handle cardiac, trauma, and respiratory emergencies.  Courses in a Paramedic training may be more rigorous than coursework for an EMT-Basic.

The EMT-Paramedic program at HCI could prepare students to operate in a prehospital setting at a higher level than those at the EMT-Basic level.  As an EMT-Paramedic, you can learn about advanced first aid, cardiac monitoring, and train on-site in emergency rooms and ambulances.  HCI’s EMT-Basic and EMT-Paramedic diploma programs are great for those with busy schedules, because online courses make it easier for those who need a flexible schedule.

Upon completing your training and graduation, you will want to consider taking and passing the NREMT which will certify you as an Emergency Medical Technician.  This exam will test your cognitive understanding and your hands-on skills as an Emergency Medical Technician.  Once you pass the NREMT, you will be certified as an EMT, and may be well on your way to a career as an EMT.  Classes at Health Career Institute begin January 11, 2016, don’t forget to enroll!
