RN and BSN: An Investment In Your Future

BSN Investment

As an 18 year-old beginning college, most students have no idea what they want to study and just take general liberal arts courses, making a decision on what to major in later down the road.  Some people go through all four years with a major that they later realize won’t help them get a job once they graduate. Others have a clear and direct path that they intend to follow. It’s often said you need to spend money to make money.

Going to school is expensive – between tuition, boarding, and books, one year in college could amount to that of a brand new car.  That will often turn people away from continuing with their education because many people end up taking out loans and don’t want to put themselves in debt at such a young age.  However, the payoff begins when you graduate and receive your diploma.  Nursing is a field where this is nothing but true.  In fact, any field within the health career industry, including but not limited to medical assisting, surgical technician, and getting your bachelors of science in nursing, will make it possible for you to finish school feeling confident that you have a career ready and waiting.

Here are some statistics to show you how important it is to invest in your future by going to school:

  • According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for registered nurses is expected in increase 19 percent between 2012 and 2022.  And healthcare is a field where there will never be a shortage of jobs.
  • The 2012 U.S. Census Bureau released information that shows workers with a degree earn nearly twice as much as those without one in 2009.
  • The Census also illustrated that the average worker between the ages of 25 and 34 with a high school diploma earned $27,500.  Similarly, the average worker with a bachelor’s degree earned $45,600.

Many times people look at the cost of college, and hold themselves back.  What people forget to think about is that college is only a few years, afterwards you join the workforce, making college your best investment in your future. Most college graduates will earn back what was spent on school within a few years of working.  College can be one of the best investments you make, so make it count!
