EMT School Online
You would think that to become an EMT you would need to learn in a hands-on environment, right? Wrong. There are actually many online EMT programs, that are considered hybrid programs. You are correct in the fact there are some portions that require in-person training, but what you may not know is that most of the academic portion can be done from home.
The principle goal for an EMT is to administer basic emergency medical attention and transportation for patients in need. Online training programs will prepare a future EMT to determine a patient’s condition and handle different emergencies such as cardiac, respiratory and trauma.
Typically an EMT program takes two to four months to complete; because most online courses allow students to work at their own pace, they give a maximum of six months to complete the program. Most EMT programs look for prospective students to hold a current CPR certification prior to enrolling.
Below is a list of some courses you may see in an Online EMT Program:
- Patient Assessment
- Emergency care for infants and children
- Ambulance Operations
- Trauma Emergencies
- Airway Management
After completion of all coursework and fieldwork, students must take and pass the NREMT exam.
The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) is an exam that is usually required of all emergency medical technicians (EMT) who are seeking their license. Online EMT programs will train and prepare you for this exam. This certification tests your cognitive understanding as well as procedures and hands-on experience.
Becoming an EMT is a great way to start gaining experience in the medical field. It’s also a great stepping stone for those interested in continuing their education. So whether you want to become and EMT for a new venture, or you plan to pursue it as a career, make sure you research different online programs and see what they have to offer!
