Learn About HCI’s Hybrid Fire Science Degrees

The hybrid Fire Science degrees at HCI can help you to increase your employment opportunities. Become a better fire firefighter and develop skills that are vital for leadership positions.

What is a Hybrid Degree?

Hybrid degrees are programs that are completed partially online and partially on campus. A majority of your courses will be available to complete online, so that means that you can work your education into your current work schedule.

The AS in Fire Science covers required courses for certification as Fire Officer I and Fire Officer II, both of which are leadership positions. Learn the techniques and skills that you need to serve as a firefighter at a higher capacity with a combination of online courses and on-campus classes.

For the Fire Officer I track, students will take three of their courses completely online. The courses are Company Officer and Leadership, Building Construction for Fire Protection, and Fire Fighting Tactics & Strategy I.

The blended course in this track is Fire Service Course Delivery. You will learn how to teach the fire service to new recruits.

The Fire Officer II track has three courses that are 100% online as well. These courses include Fire Prevention Practices, Private Fire Protection Systems 1, and Fire Fighting Tactics & Strategy II.

In the blended course for the Fire Officer II track, you will take Fire Service Course Design. This means that you will learn how to design a course that teaches about the fire service. You will come onto campus for this course as well.

Online and On Campus

Many of the courses that you take for the Hybrid Fire Service program will be completed online, but some courses are going to be done on-campus. This hybrid format means that you can learn the science and techniques by logging into your computer and practice techniques in person.

In addition to the courses in fire science, you will take general education courses to develop the “soft skills” that are essential to leadership positions. Your college degree prepares you for supervisory and leadership positions within the fire service. Contact us to learn more today!
