Paramedic to AS in EMS

Why should you go from Paramedic to AS in EMS?

You can become a Paramedic with only a high school diploma and certification training. The program for becoming a Paramedic is generally a year long.

You pass the certification exam and get approved by the state to work in the field. Now you might be wondering if you need to get an associates degree, or even why should you go from the Paramedic certification to an AS in EMS?

Reasons to get an AS in EMS

While it’s true that Paramedics don’t need to have an associates degree, there are still many valid reasons for earning a degree in your field anyway. The first thing that it shows employers is that you have completed a full education.

Yes, you have the skills required for being a Paramedic. A college degree, though, shows that you have important soft skills for dealing with people.

It also shows that you have leadership skills. Many higher level positions require a college degree, and an AS in EMS would give you that. Paramedics have already done most of the work toward the degree already. It wouldn’t be a huge step to finish the credits and earn the degree.

Speaking of which, Paramedics only need to take 15 credit hours in order to earn the AS in EMS. Their credits from Paramedic training go toward the degree. Since you are already most of the way there, why not finish the degree?

More reasons to get a degree in EMS

An AS in EMS could also make you stand out from other Paramedics when applying for jobs. The college degree shows your specialization and commitment to the field. Having the degree can make you a better candidate for different positions within EMS.

The AS in EMS can also be done online. You won’t have to give up your career to finish your degree. The program is designed for working Paramedics, so you can complete your classes around your busy schedule.

As you can see, there are many reasons why you should go from Paramedic to an AS in EMS. Career advancement and personal fulfillment are just some of the benefits of earning your degree in EMS. Ready to find out more? Contact us to request more information today!
