What is the American Heart Association BLS?

American Heart Association BLS

Medical professionals must keep updated on current techniques for saving lives. The science behind the techniques sometimes changes as we learn more about how to keep patients alive and as we develop new technologies.

The Basic Life Support credential from the American Heart Association (AHA) prepares you with the necessary rescue measures that you may need on the job.

BLS for healthcare providers

Emergency Medical Technicians and nurses learn about life-saving techniques in school, but the BLS Certification from AHA provides a specialized credential in managing cardiorespiratory emergencies that may be encountered in the field. BLS Certification can also be completed by non-medical professionals; however, the course offered at HCI focuses on healthcare providers.

Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers prepares the healthcare provider with the skills and knowledge necessary for caring for adult, children, and infants. In the course, you learn CPR and AED usage, the American Heart Association Chain of Survival, 1-rescuer CPR and AED, and 2-rescuer CPR and AED.

The BLS Certification course also covers the techniques for adults, children, and infants. You will be prepared to perform CPR and AED on individuals at any age. Rescue breathing and bag-mask techniques open airways and help patients to breathe. You learn how to do these techniques on adults, children, and infants.

The AHA and BLS certification

The American Heart Association researches heart and respiratory health. The latest science is incorporated into their courses so that you know that you are up-to-date on the latest life-saving techniques. Basic Life Support courses for healthcare providers give you the skills and knowledge you need to support your patients who are dealing with cardiopulmonary emergencies.

When you work in the medical profession, you will be in situations where the knowledge you gain from an American Heart Association course for BLS will come in handy. The certification qualifies you to manage the cardiac emergencies as they arise. You can take an AHA course for BLS at the Health Career Institute, an authorized training center for the American Heart Association.

The American Heart Association BLS certification is a certification that equips the medical provider with the necessary skills for performing basic life support techniques on patients in cardiac arrest or choking incidents. To earn the credential, you take the course and pass the certification exam.
