Your First Year As An EMT

First year EMT

Whether you are about to enter your first year as an Emergency Medical Technician or you are simply curious about what it will be like, the following will give you a well-informed idea of what to expect.

An EMT’s First Day On-The-Job

Believe it or not, it is quite common for first-time EMT’s to feel under qualified for the position on their first day. It is not for lack of practice of training, but simply the anticipation of the calls to come. The great part about this is that you are part of a highly trained team who will step in and lead the way when you feel the need to observe. It is not likely you will have to jump in and do something you do not feel comfortable doing…At least not within your first few weeks.

There will come a time when you will need to bite the bullet and perform tasks you are not 100 percent comfortable with, but your team will be there to back you up.

Adjustment For EMT’s

You will probably get the hang of the position before the year’s end, but think of your first year on the job as a period of adjustment. It takes a while to adjust to a new career, especially one where you have  to be in the field saving lives, which can seem daunting at first. It is a career where you will constantly be learning, but in your first year you will walk away with a wealth of knowledge to build on what you learned in school.

No matter where you are currently in your journey to be an Emergency Medical Technician, we hope you enjoy the road to saving lives!
