Your First Year As A Firefighter

first year firefighter

You probably have a good idea at this point what it takes to become a Firefighter, and you may know what to expect over the long-haul. But, do you know what to expect in the first year of your career as a Firefighter? If not, you have come to the right place. The following will give you an idea of what you can expect in your first year of being a Firefighter.

Getting Hired As A Firefighter

Landing a career as a Firefighter will probably be the hardest part of your adventure. You will find that there are a lot of sacrifices you will have to make in order to be able to fulfill the demanding position, but if it is the career you want, it will be more than worth it.

Your Year As A Firefighter

While the day-to-day won’t be exactly the same, your schedule will likely consist of 24-hour shifts. During those shifts you can expect to attend a meeting followed by a jog or some form of group exercise.

Later on, some Firefighter from the crew will probably go to the grocery store depending on whose day it is to cook. It is a very team-oriented environment and your team will become like your family.

Of course, this is the rundown of a day sans the calls, which of course when they come in you will have to respond to them.

Later in the day, you may have to do some fire prevention inspections. Those entail you going to local businesses and recognizing fire hazards so the companies can fix them in case of an emergency.

While it may seem more like a day of completing tasks, that is simply how it appears on paper. Every day as a Firefighter is unknown. How many calls will you get? Where will the calls be? No two days are the same, and when you’re not on calls, you’re spending it with family. How does that sound?
