Obtaining A Nursing Career Post Graduation

nursing career

So you want to know how to land a job as a Nurse after graduation? You will want to start making plans for this journey before you even graduate. The more leg work you do before graduation, the easier it will be to get a career as a Nurse.

The First Step To Obtaining A Nursing Career

The most important part of this process is to secure yourself a clinical spot. Then you will want to get the word out there that you would be interested in making a career out of the area you are in.

If you don’t have a clinical, then you should take to the Internet and find Nurse managers in your local area in order to try and secure a clinical. Start out by introducing yourself through E-mail and slowly making a connection before asking if there a clinical position open.

The Second Step To Obtaining A Nursing Career

Pay close attention during clinical to find out what you are interested in in terms of a long term career. You will want to work on different floors and make sure you are making yourself known to the manager of the floor.

Once you are in the area you enjoy, focus on being up-beat, keeping in touch with the Nurse manager, and even asking him/her if you can send an E-mail when you apply so that you are not lost in the sea of applications that come their way.

Keep in mind, Nurse managers have to sift through plenty of applications and try to figure out who would be a good fit. By putting yourself out there, you become a viable option for hire. They will likely be very receptive to your tenacity. Also, it is a good idea to send in a handwritten thank you card to the floor once your clinical is completed.

The Third Step To Obtaining A Nursing Career

Do not send in a generic resume. Now that the Nurse manager knows to look out for your application, you want to make sure you put the time and effort into it to show that you are not just expecting the position based on a generic resume.

Write a well thought-out cover letter that goes beyond your general cover letter and gives a peak into who you are as a person and as a Nurse.

Applying to many Nursing jobs online with generic resumes will just sit in that vast black hole where it seems most online resumes go. Be sure you stand out!

Where will you begin your journey?
