Joan Sherrard

Joan Sherrard is the Director of Career Services at HCI College. Her background includes 12 years as a Director and Regional Director of Career Services. Prior to working in higher education, Joan worked as a recruiter and account executive for Healthcare Staffing. Her experience in working with employers from within medical offices, hospitals, labs, diagnostic centers, and skilled nursing facilities, provides students with information to help them understand the medical industry and become successful. Joan has spent much of her career in higher education in South Florida, working with Nursing, Medical Assistants, C.N.A, EMT, Paramedics, Veterinary Assisting, Dental Assisting, and Culinary just to name a few.

Joan is very student focused, team oriented and understands the importance of finding our graduates meaningful careers. She assists students and graduates with resume writing, interviewing, job search, professionalism, and career goal setting. Joan holds both her BBA and MBA from the University of Phoenix.

Dr. Avis Chapman-Reese

Dr. Avis Chapman-Reese is our Dean of Academic Affairs. For over 20 years, Dr. Avis Chapman-Reese’s mantra has always been, “Teaching should be done with PASSION”! She has extensive experience in the field of education serving in the capacities of Classroom Teacher (Miami-Dade County Public Schools and School District of Palm Beach County) for Grades 6-8 in Exceptional Student Education, ESE Program Coordinator, Assistant Principal, Associate Professor (Central State University College of Education), Professor (Palm Beach State College -Education), Associate Professor (Alliant International University- Doctoral Dissertation Committee Member), and Dean of Education. Courses taught include Foundations of Education, Multicultural Education, Assessment and Measurement, Early Childhood Nutrition and Safety, Teaching Diverse Populations, Individuals with Special Needs, Student Teaching, Capstone Seminar, Strategies for College Success, and Student Life Skills.

She has devoted much of her career to the development and enhancement of curriculum framework, school improvement plans, student and faculty retention and campus-wide operations. One of her biggest accomplishments as a Dean of Curriculum and Academic Affairs has been the implementation of Professional Development for Faculty that assists Instructors with incorporating teaching strategies within the classroom as well as identifying adult learners with learning disabilities.

Dr. Rouhani

Dr. Rouhani is the Medical Director at our Fort Lauderdale Campus. After completing his residency training at Vanderbilt University and Medical Center, Dr. Rouhani returned home to practice emergency medicine in South Florida. Over the last 20 years he has worked at several Emergency Departments and served as Medical Director and Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Florida for 10 years.

Dr. Rouhani has also served as EMS Medical Director for multiple cities in Broward County. An innovator in Emergency Medicine, Dr. Rouhani is a co-founder of Symptify, an online symptom checker to better educate patients about their conditions. Most recently, he has focused his endeavors on improving patients’ health using IV fluid hydration through his company, Revitalize IV Lounge.

Currently, he serves as System Medical Director at JFK Medical Center Emergency Services overseeing 4 different emergency departments in West Palm Beach with over 150,000 visits annually.

Denise Edwards

Denise Edwards is the Dean of Academic Affairs at our Fort Lauderdale Campus. Denise was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. She shares that she is a city girl at heart but somehow has managed to muster up some southern charm over the years.

Denise is a first-generation college graduate and has made Education Management her passion for the past decade. She possesses a master’s degree in Business Administration Management from Strayer University and has recently decided to make some strides towards beginning her PhD studies. She is a true believer and an example of how a person’s life trajectory can be changed by education. Denise understands that to tap into a person’s full potential, we must empower their mind and equip them with a marketable skill.

Denise has worked in higher education for almost 15-years in some leadership roles in various departments, such as Corporate Registrar Services, Financial Aid Services, Academics, and finally her humble beginning in Admissions. She successfully and effectively assisted major institutions through multiple accreditation visits, program developments, strategic planning, and Veteran Affairs audits. Denise considers herself as Jill of all trades and has never shied away from learning new things, nor is she shy to educate others to facilitate their own success and growth. She is a natural born leader who believes in the proverb, “Each one teach one’: because if one succeeds, then we all win!

If asked what she believes is her biggest accomplishment? Her answer will always be her family. Despite the many accolades in her career and educational journey, her family is the most important. Her family continuously motivates her to strive for excellence in all aspects of her life. In her spare time, she gets enjoyment from just kicking back with them to watch a good horror movie and cracking a joke or two.

Daniel Perez

Daniel Perez is the EMS Program Coordinator for HCI College at the Fort Lauderdale Campus. He has over 7 years of Firefighter/Paramedic experience. Daniel earned an Associate of Science Degree in Emergency Medical Services, and currently in the process of obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management.

His ultimate goal is to excel excellence in student advocacy and provide the best EMS training there is for all HCI College EMS students. Along with his well-rounded, well-experienced team of EMS Instructors, every student will achieve their educational goals.

During his time off, Daniel enjoys time with family and friends. He is feels that its an absolute pleasure to be in this leadership role and looks forward to helping all students and staff members in need to achieve success.

Anna Geffrard

Anna Geffrard is the Medical Assisting Program Director at our Fort Lauderdale Campus. She is a Registered Medical Assistant and Certified Medical & Billing Specialist with more than 20 years of experience.

Anna graduated from University of Phoenix with a Master of Business Administration, Bachelor of Science in Health Administration and an Associate of Science in Medical Assistant from Keiser College. Prior to teaching, she has worked at several health care facilities as medical assistant, team leader, billing and coding specialist,

departmental supervisor, and office manager. For the last 12 years, Anna has been teaching in areas such as: Medical Assistant, Medical Front Office Billing & Coding, Health Services Administration and Business Office Administration programs, online and on campus.

Anna has lived in Florida for about 28 years, and not going anywhere!! She is happily married, to love of her life for 12 years. Aside from working, Anna enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with our family and friends. The highlight of her live presently is her 22 months old boy, Ethan.

One motto that Anna lives by is “Start each day by being thankful for another opportunity”

Louis Felice

Mr. Felice is an EMS Instructor at the Fort Lauderdale campus. He comes with a wealth of experience as an EMT and Paramedic. He has also taught and been active in the educational field. Mr. Felice has worked in many states including New York, North Carolina and Florida. He has also volunteered as a Paramedic and an ALS coordinator.

Mr. Felice holds several degrees, an MBA, a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration, and a Master of Science in Management/Leadership. He worked with Selden Fire Department where he implemented the QAQI procedure, doing it on his own. When he started growing the program he created a committee which encompassed 10 people and the medical director as well the chiefs. He was able to implement their ALS program from nonexistent to a thriving program.

Community outreach is very important to Mr. Felice. He has been involved in numerous community initiatives that the FD wanted. He was a part of the training committee for the Seldon FD, which had the instructors as well as the lieutenants and captains involved. They trained the department as well as new members in new methodology. Twice a year they had open houses which had the community come and see the equipment that the FD used as well as training for those interested.

Mr. Felice was one of the first people that arrived after the tragic events of 911 and was at ground zero for 1 month. At Medford FD he was one of the main contributors of getting a retirement fund for the volunteers. He setup awards for these volunteers to recognize their contributions. He was the instructor coordinator at La Guardia Community College and made sure that all the students met all the requirements to meet state standards as well as the NREMT.
